How do Meursault’s and Marie’s feelings differ in their relationship?

In Muersault and Marie's relationship, Muersault and Marie have feelings that differ from one another. Meursault says, "A minute later, she asked me if I loved her. I told her it didn't mean anything but that I didn't think so" (Camus 35). This shows Muersault's unemotional attachment to Marie. However, even though she asks him several times after this and still recieves that same response, She asks him to marry her. After he gives her the same response that he had given her the many other times she asked, she waits a few moments and accepts all he has to say and still says that she wants to marry him, showing an emotional attchement to Muersault that he does not show in return. Throughout the whole story, Marie clings to Muersault, but he seems like he has her in his life because he is supposed to have a woman in his life. Thus showing the difference of feelings in the relationship.
Meursalt and Marie's relationship differs in many ways. For one, Meursalt simly just enjoys her company and it really doesn't matter where he ends up. However, Marie feels as though she would like to spend the rest of her life with Meursalt. She asks Meursalt to marry her, and he didn't show any real feelings towards the idea but he just agreed. He really just spends time with her because he likes to, however Marie wants to spend the rest of her life with Meursalt.
Meursault and Marie have very different feelings in their relationship. Meursault is very laid back and does not care about Marie or the relationship. Marie likes the attention from Meursault and almost forces a relationship. Even after Meursault replied that he did not love her, Marie asked Meursault to marry her. "I said it didn't make a difference to me and that we could if she wanted to (Camus 41)." This shows that Meursault is very unattached to the relationship and does not care what happens. It also shows that reguardless of how Meursault responds to Marie, she is still after his affection and attention. These two characters stay connected for different reasons throughout the story. Marie needs Meursault's attention and Meursault just like to have Marie around. Although they have very different feelings for one another, they both need each other in their lives.
