This statement clearly supports the lack of emotions and Meursault's fight to withhold his feelings that we knew existed the entire time. We often argued that it was just simply "part of his personality". Do you believe, however, that maybe these personality traits were a front put on by Meursault? He had never before showed care for what others thought of him, so why cry about it now?
