Muersaults conviction

During Meursault's trial, the prosecutor states, "Has he so much as expressed any remorse? Never. Gentlemen" (Camus 100).

Do you beleive this is the first time that a character in the story shows a negative reaction to Meursault's personality? Does someone in the story see that he is not a normal man?

I believe that everyone in the story was able to easily recognize Meursaults unusual character, however it was whether or not they chose to give recognition to his actions and thoughts. For example, Marie was entirely too smart not to recognize his behavior and unusual character, but perhaps chose to completely ignore it and his lack of emotional desire for her, in order to support her own emotional needs.
